About
A peculiar sort of reverend
I’m Michael: pastor, spiritual director, queer theologian, gamer, and someone who considers an afternoon investigating the philosophical significance of garden gnomes time well spent.
I live in Lawrence, Kansas, with my husband and our dog, Karma. My interests include Sherlock Holmes, contemplative spirituality, baseball, Jungian shadow work, and finding out what happens if I click the suspicious thing. This last impulse explains a lot.
Weirdly Sacred is my small corner of the internet for paying attention. To things that are beautiful, unsettling, funny, ordinary, or possibly growing extra legs. I’m interested in the sacred wherever it turns up, including places with questionable lighting.
My faith is progressive, my curiosity has no sense of proportion, and my affection for humanity persists despite regular exposure to the news. I believe queer lives are holy, doubt belongs at the table, and kindness is worth taking seriously. Myself, somewhat less so.
Around here you might find something I’m reading, a game I’ve disappeared into, a baked good that deserves praise, or a theological loose end. Occasionally, all four turn out to be the same rabbit hole.
I also meet with people one-on-one and in groups to explore spirituality in all its forms. No tidy beliefs required. We can work with a good question and a raised eyebrow. Learn more about spiritual companionship.
Welcome. Please keep any cursed objects in your carry-on.
See you out there.
Michael
